Doggen the Run

Many mornings when you wake up you dont feel like going for your run. You have no one to run with and you just are to tired to get up and go. The solution to your problem is right under your nose, a dog. Dogs love to run and exercise so why not just take your dog on a run to get in shape for your track meet.

There are dogs for every event that you may run, there is dogs for short speed work outs, there are dogs that can go long distance such as 10 miles, there are dogs that can go fast for seven miles, ones that will go a slow steady pace, or will run in the snow with you. See all your problems are solved, a human can let you down and not show up or not be able to go that morning your dog on the other hand will beg to go for a run. And how easy is it to tell those pleading eyes no.

But before you rush into running with your dog you need to make sure that they are in shape take them into it slow so that they have a chance to get in shape. Never take your puppy for a run there bones are not strong enough to take all the bouncing.

An Athletes Nightmare

Planters Fasciitis, is one of the biggest injuries a runner can get. Planters Fasciitis is when the band that runs along the bottom of your foot from your heal to your toes. The band becomes inflamed because of tearing. The pain is usually at its worse in the morning and is better by the end of the day.

But for me it didn't hurt as much when I got out of bed in the morning when it is suppose too. The reason behind this is when you sleep the band heals its self incorrectly, so when you get out of bed in the morning the scar tissue tares again, causing major pain.

When my pain was at its peak was when I would remain standing for long periods of time or after walking a very long time.

When you have Planters Fasciitis you will know it for there will be a stabbing pain on the bottom of your foot in the arch or in the heal. When you have these symptoms it is best to go to a podiatrist, so that they can make sure that you have not torn something and need surgery.

The way to get rid of Planters Fasciitis is to quite your running all together or the sport you are doing. Because you could further tare the planters fasciitis. A good example of this is Antonio Gates a Tight End for the San Diego Chargers. In 2010 Gates had Planter Fasciitis and played only 10 games, then in 2011 he thought that his plantar fasciitis problems were over but it turned out they were not he tore the ligament completly and had to get surgery.

The way you get rid of plantar fasciitis is by joint to physical therapy, getting a pro stretch, rolling a golf ball on the bottom of your foot to break down the scar tissue, frozen water bottle, using a pro stretch, and a night splint to sleep in which helps heal the fasciitis correctly. Will all help get rid of the fasciitis.

Ewww Shin Splints!!

In track one of the most common injures is shin splint. Shin Splints is a sharp pain in the lower leg along the shin bone (tibia). It is known medically as the tibial stress syndrome.
Shins splints can be cause by many disorders such as compartment syndrome this is a buildup of pressure in the muscles do to exercise, tendinitis is when the tendon is inflamed, myositis when the muscle is inflamed, and periostisis is when the outer layer of the bone is inflamed.
Shines splints are most common in runners because of the pounding of the legs on hard surfaces, and sports that there are sudden stops and turns such as tennis, basket ball, and soccer.
How to get rid of your shin splints you should ice and rest them because if you keep running it will only agrivate them more and the continuing of your activites can lead to stress fractures so you will be out for a whole season or longer instead of a few days or weeks. You can also take ibrophen to help with the swelling but do not put heat on your shins, this will only cause agrivation!!
Make sure that you stretch sometimes its the fact that another muscle is tight that you get injured some where else. For instance if your shins are sore it maybe that your calf muscles are tight and causeing your shins to be messed up as well.
How to stretch your shin splints take a rope and pull the foot upward (dorsi-flexion), or you can contract the muscles to keep the foot pulled up ward, and walking on your heels is a way to also stretch them.  You can strengthen them by sitting in a chair and tapping your toes passed when your muscles begun to burn. An athletic trainer can also stretch your shins out.
To help prevent getting shin splints again by replacing your worn out running shoes on time, and you can also use a sports sock which compresses the leg and helps you not get shin splints.

How Far Did You Run?

Have you ever wondered or been asked how far you ran and what pace you ran at. You look at the person and say I really have no idea. Well lucky you there is a running device that says how far you have ran what pace you ran how many calories you may have burned and how fast your heart rate is it even times you.

The amazing watch has many looks it can look like a normal watch or it can be bigger. The watch is called a garmin there are many different uses for different watches some you can bike or swim with. Some you can train indoors.

The garmin is used to help you reach your goals. If you want to run a work out on a track and run 400 meters at 5 minutes pace. The watch can show you your pace so that you know weather you are right on or that you are not quite on it. Have you ever ran a race and felt like you were on the right pace to go a 5:00 mile and at the end it turns out that you actually went 5:20. Or have you thought that you ran five miles when actually the amount was three miles but it felt like it was five. The garman helps you see the the millage that you actually went.

Definition of Runner!

Crazy
Insane
Not normal
Bizarre
We’ve heard them all
Headstrong is what we are
It’s the feeling that counts
The reward when done
That beautiful time
The finish line
I think you know who I am
A runner to the end

Never Be Satisfied!

“Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” - Pre

When you compete the worst thing you can do is be content with how you do. A person who is satisfied does not try to get better, because they already like how they are competing.

But a person who is hungry for more or thinks, I need to work on this, and this. Or if they think I could do way better than what I just did, and want more. They are going to achieve more, and push themselves to do their very best. They are the type of people when asked about how they did say “I did ok but I can do a lot better next time”. That is exactly what a coach wants to hear from there athletes. That they are not content with who they are, and want more, these separate the good athletes from the great athletes.

If you become satisfied you may be giving up something great, and just be stuck with the good.

Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius is an Olympic 400 runner who is not like any normal 400 runner. Pistorius has no legs below the knee. He has curved carbon-fibre blades which people say give him an advantage, but he and a few others do not agree.

Oscar Pistorius was born with a missing fibula, the fibula is the outer and usually smaller of the two bones between the knee and the ankle. His parents then had both his legs amputated when he was 11 months. Oscar then learned to walk and run on prosthetics. Which can be very difficult, Oscar said that if they ever find that his legs give him an advantage against others that he will not run anymore. His dream was to be able to run in the Olympics and Paralympics.

In 2008 Oscar’s dream came true was able to run in the 2008 Olympics in the 4X400 meter relay. He ran the very first leg and they made it to the finals. The down part was the team agreed that the slowest leg would have to drop out so that another team mate who was running the 400 hurdles could run in the relay.

Unfortunately Oscar’s time was the slowest, like any athlete who didn’t get to compete in the finals Oscar was very upset. But he was happy that he was treated like a normal athlete. Good part is the he was not satisfied with the fact that he did not get to run in the finals.

Being unsatisfied with how you run is a very good sign, it shows that you want to get better and that, you will get better. A person who is satisfied with how run does not get better.
