Definition of Runner!

Crazy
Insane
Not normal
Bizarre
We’ve heard them all
Headstrong is what we are
It’s the feeling that counts
The reward when done
That beautiful time
The finish line
I think you know who I am
A runner to the end

Never Be Satisfied!

“Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” - Pre

When you compete the worst thing you can do is be content with how you do. A person who is satisfied does not try to get better, because they already like how they are competing.

But a person who is hungry for more or thinks, I need to work on this, and this. Or if they think I could do way better than what I just did, and want more. They are going to achieve more, and push themselves to do their very best. They are the type of people when asked about how they did say “I did ok but I can do a lot better next time”. That is exactly what a coach wants to hear from there athletes. That they are not content with who they are, and want more, these separate the good athletes from the great athletes.

If you become satisfied you may be giving up something great, and just be stuck with the good.

Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Pistorius is an Olympic 400 runner who is not like any normal 400 runner. Pistorius has no legs below the knee. He has curved carbon-fibre blades which people say give him an advantage, but he and a few others do not agree.

Oscar Pistorius was born with a missing fibula, the fibula is the outer and usually smaller of the two bones between the knee and the ankle. His parents then had both his legs amputated when he was 11 months. Oscar then learned to walk and run on prosthetics. Which can be very difficult, Oscar said that if they ever find that his legs give him an advantage against others that he will not run anymore. His dream was to be able to run in the Olympics and Paralympics.

In 2008 Oscar’s dream came true was able to run in the 2008 Olympics in the 4X400 meter relay. He ran the very first leg and they made it to the finals. The down part was the team agreed that the slowest leg would have to drop out so that another team mate who was running the 400 hurdles could run in the relay.

Unfortunately Oscar’s time was the slowest, like any athlete who didn’t get to compete in the finals Oscar was very upset. But he was happy that he was treated like a normal athlete. Good part is the he was not satisfied with the fact that he did not get to run in the finals.

Being unsatisfied with how you run is a very good sign, it shows that you want to get better and that, you will get better. A person who is satisfied with how run does not get better.

The Run!

Many think of it as someone trying to escape
An undesired fate
Some think that it’s just a way to lose some weight
Some find it a fun time
While others wish they had another way to spend their time
Many hate the feeling it brings
Worn out arms
A cough that sounds like a barking dog
Lungs that feel as if they are about to burst
 Legs feeling weak
Like collapse is near
And that the home stretch will never come
Hips feel like they have just been jammed
It makes you wonder why
                                                                                          I am who I am

The Great Race!

Memories start to flash back
As you start to walk onto the track
Of all you have done to get that metal
The butterflies that just won’t settle
To the white line you begin to jog
And your throat begins to clog
Knowing what’s expected
And the fear of being rejected
The last minute good lucks to everyone around
For this final beat down
Look to the starter for that pistol
And listen for the shot that is the signal
To set you free
As can be
The flying rush of adrenaline
There is no comparison
The feeling you are going to die
But the finish is so close by
The roar of the crowd
Is ever so loud
There is no resemblance
To that great remembrance

The Team!

The team is there no matter which event you do
When you are down
They will always be around
The team is a family of many members
Throwers, jumpers, and runners
We stand by each other
You can find members by the line
Cheering you on
Saying last minute jokes
To help you get with your game
When they see your down they ask what’s wrong
They are there to help you stay strong
